What’s Your Relationship Word?

What’s Your Relationship Word?

I did a really amazing journaling exercise this past week.  It was a “year in review” for my business and boy did it blow my mind.  I know I’ve mentioned this a time or two (or twenty), but I really love my job and feel blessed that I get to do it, but it was pretty amazing to sit back and look at the entire year.  I was able to explore  where I succeeded, where I stumbled and what I overcame and created in 2015.

Part of the exercise was to pick a word for 2016. The intention is that by having one word to focus on for 2016, you will be better able to turn that intention into a reality.

For 2016, I chose abundance and courage…sorry, I couldn’t just pick just one.

Abundance because I want to focus on creating more healing, more change and more growth for the couples and individuals that work with me in therapy in Sacramento.

And courage to continue to be brave enough to try new things and not to shy away from the creativity I bring to my work.

In doing this exercise, I realized that my professional words for 2016 are the same as my personal.  Because in my marriage, I want to practice abundance.  I want to find the good, even when I’m in a sour mood. I want to slow down and show gratitude.  I want to focus on abundance because I want to be intentional about creating a large amount of love and joy around me.

And in my marriage, I also want to be courageous.  We all know it’s hard to continually show up and be vulnerable.  It’s much easier to pull away and put up walls.  But courage in love means turning towards one another and doing intentional work on your relationship as a couple.

So, what about you? Have you picked a relationship word (or words) for 2016?

What would it be?

Intimacy? Gratitude? Connection? Authentic? Laughter? Trust? Forgive? Balance?

I want you to be really mindful of this.  The clearer you are with your focus, the more you get to shift this intention into a reality.

I would love for you to share your relationship word with me.  And if you’re struggling to identify a word, I would love to help you identify one!

As always, I want to know what your journey in love and connection is like.  It’s why I do this work.  Send me an email, info@lifeunscriptedcounseling.com or give me a call, 916.955.3200.
